Glastonbury has announced details of its Emerging Talent Competition for 2023, and places at the festival are being raffled off.

The annual competition offers aspiring performers a chance to win a place on one of the main stages of the festival, as well as a prize of £5,000 for talent development from the PRS Foundation.

In 2022, Lewis McLaughlin won the first prize, and rapper Cray Wolf and the English Teacher group from Leeds took third and second places, respectively.

Other past finalists include Marie White, Flohio, Izzy Bizu, Declan McKenna, Josh Barry and She drew a gun.

Applications for participation in the Emerging Talent competition this year open on Monday (January 30). Full details are available below.

The Emerging Talent competition at Glastonbury returned in 2022 after the 2020 and 2021 festivals were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to that, the last draw was held in 2020, and RAE was declared the winner. Singer and songwriter from West London Matilda Mann and AJIMAL from Newcastle took third and second places respectively.

Speaking to NME last year, Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis said of the finale of the competition: “It’s like performing at the opening of the festival, because we are working on its planning throughout the year, and when the finale of the New Talent Competition takes place, it’s like the beginning of the Glastonbury season.”.

This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from June 21 to 25, but so far only Elton John has been announced as a headliner.

Other rumored bands that could top the list at the moment include Arctic Monkeys, Roxy Music in the legends slot and Gun N’ Roses after Duff McKagan showed up last week to confirm the band’s slot.

Elsewhere, fans suspect the Red Hot Chili Peppers may perform at Glastonbury this year after bassist Flea shared a cryptic post on social media.
