Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced new fast wireless charging technology with 40W power output. The technology, which can charge a 4,000mAh battery to 100 percent in just 40 minutes, can find itself in Xiaomi devices that will be released in the near future.
The wireless charging period in smartphones started with the Galaxy Note 5 introduced by South Korean technology giant Samsung in 2015. Since then, many companies such as Apple, Google, LG and Xiaomi have followed Samsung’s footsteps and incorporated wireless charging technology in the devices they developed.
However, there are some important obstacles to the widespread acceptance of wireless charging. The first of these is their low capacity and long charging times. At this time when wired charging fills your smartphone’s battery by 100 percent in about an hour, most wireless charging solutions on premium flagships barely achieve this performance.
Major manufacturers in the industry are working on more powerful and efficient wireless charging technologies to overcome this problem. For example, earlier this year, Xiaomi introduced the Mi 10 flagship series, offering 30W fast wireless charging support in China. Of course, one should not forget Vivo’s APEX 2020 concept, which offers 60W fast wireless charging support. The Chinese company says that 60W wireless charging can charge a 2,000mAh battery in just 20 minutes at 100 percent, but since the APEX 2020 is just a concept phone, it is worth mentioning that it has practically no equivalent for now.
Capturing a successful sales chart with the new flagship Mi 10, Xiaomi can offer a 40W fast wireless charging solution on phones that will be released later this year. Lei Jun, the co-founder of the company, has announced Xiaomi’s new fast wireless charging technology with 40W output power from its account in China’s popular social media platform Weibo.
As you can see from the video below, the Chinese manufacturer’s new fast charging technology can charge a 4,000mAh battery by 57 percent in 20 minutes. It takes about 40 minutes for the battery to reach 100 percent charge. This means Xiaomi’s wireless flash charging technology is more efficient and faster than Vivo’s 60W Super FlashCharge.
It is unclear when Xiaomi will incorporate the new fast wireless charging technology into its devices, but to make an optimistic estimate, we may see a possibility in some Xiaomi models that will be released this year. In the meantime, let’s compress the information that the phone in the video is a special Mi 10 Pro prototype.
