The Witcher: Andrzej Sapkowski Responds to Racial Criticism

In an interview with Wyborcza, the writer of The Witcher books, Andrzej Sapkowski responded to racial criticism!

For the end of 2019, Netflix has prepared a nice surprise for its fans. Indeed, the platform has released a series on wizards, The Witcher . If the latter has attracted many people, some have not appreciated certain things that do not agree with the books of Andrzej Sapkowski.

Opinions about The Witcher are quite divided . Some clearly loved the series while others did not like it at all. At first, fans criticized the directors for Geralt’s look. Indeed, in the video game, the latter carries two weapons and has no beard . Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who is inspired by the books of Andrzej Sapkowski but also by the game, has made several confidences on the subject.

The producer of The Witcher explained to Writer Experience: “I loved the diversity of the world, the color (editor’s note: of the video game). The truth is that The Witcher actually has a lot of color, a lot of life. And that’s something I saw in the game. I saw how beautiful the world could be . And for me, it’s a nice balance for fantasy. Because it’s real life, right? ” .

But it’s not the only thing that has displeased fans of The Witcher . Some people did not appreciate that some Nilfgaardians and Northerners had a different skin color than that described in the books. And who better than the writer of the works, Andrzej Sapkowski, to respond to these criticisms.

In an interview with Wyborcza, Andrzej Sapkowski said: “As far as I can remember, skin color is not covered in detail in my books. So the creators of The Witcher series can express themselves freely, everything is possible and everything is allowed. This is how it could have been, after all. It doesn’t matter that they go from blondes in white to black characters . “
