In the spring of 2020, when we were hungry for big blockbuster action movies, and cinemas were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Evacuation” came in handy. Chris Hemsworth’s thriller allowed viewers to enjoy a large-scale shooting movie without leaving home, and became one of the most watched Netflix original debuts to date. With a sequel on the horizon, we now know more about his MPAA rating.
Chris Hemsworth and the Evacuation crew completed the filming of Evacuation 2 a year ago after filming in Central European cities such as Prague and Vienna. Ahead of the film’s release this summer, for those with a Netflix subscription, we learned that “Extract 2” has an R rating. That’s why:
Rated R for violent/bloody violence everywhere and language.
“Extraction” 2020 also received an R rating for the same reasons, including “violent/bloody violence” and “language”, but additionally received a rating due to “short-term drug use”. With the Extraction 2 rating, according to the movie ratings, it looks like we can expect the same level of bloodshed that ensured its success on the streaming service.
Speaking about his experience filming “Evacuation 2” last year, Chris Hemsworth shared that this time the production “went to the moon” when it came to creating combat scenes. Hemsworth, who of course plays Thor in Marvel movies like Avengers: Finale, also teased that the fight scenes are “the most detailed and grueling combat training I’ve ever been involved in.”
In recent years, action movies have really reached a new level: between the amazing stunts in the recent movie “John Wick 4” and the crazy stunts of Tom Cruise in the sequel “Mission Impossible” and “The Best Shooter”. Hemsworth said that in a “very crowded world of action,” “Extraction 2” wanted to push the boundaries, and it looks like there will be big episodes this time.
Director Sam Hargrave, who directed both “Evacuation” films, has experience as a stunt director and worked on several Marvel films before heading to Netflix. Hargrave also shared that they’re going to “push even further” when it comes to the action sequences for “Evacuation 2,” after they reached a sequence in the original that looked like one continuous frame of combat.
The films “Evacuation” are based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. After the Russo brothers completed their work with Marvel on major films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Finale, they expanded their resume with ambitious action films beyond the world of comics, and “Extraction” became a big success for them in 2020. You can look forward to the release of “Extraction 2” on Netflix on June 16.
