German automotive giant Volkswagen introduced the long-awaited new Touareg R model. The SUV, which will be exhibited for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next week, stands out with being the first VW R model with hybrid engine.
Rumors of a new high-performance Touareg bearing the “R” badge have been around the Internet for years; Until October 2019. The German automaker announced that they were working on a new Touareg R at the time, and that the SUV would be the first R model with a plug-in hybrid power unit.
Volkswagen, which finally lifted the curtain of glaze on the vehicle, which has been curious for a long time, introduced the 2021 Touareg R model. With a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 petrol engine that produces 336 horsepower under the hood, the SUV also features an electric motor with a 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery that provides 130 horsepower. With a total of 456 horsepower, this beast produces 516lb ft of torque.
Carrying the title of the first R model with hybrid powertrain system, the new Touareg R can reach 140 kilometers per hour with only electric power thanks to the lithium-ion battery pack located in the luggage area. It is not yet clear how many seconds the vehicle accelerates 0-100km.
Coming with 20-inch wheels as standard, the SUV also optionally offers a larger 22-inch wheel option. If we come to the cockpit; Featuring a driver-oriented interior design, the new Touareg R comes with a 12-inch digital display screen and a 15-inch infotainment system.
The vehicle, which has many design details such as custom R style bumpers, black louvered air intake grilles, black trim strips and black exterior mirror guards, will be on display for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
