‘Truth Social’: Donald Trump To Launch A New Social Network

Truth Social: Former US President Donald Trump announced this Wednesday (20) that he will launch his own social network. Entitled “TRUTH Social”, the platform should open as early as November, but will be available only to guests at the premiere, gaining a version for the general public from 2022.

According to Trump, the news will come to “confront the tyranny of the big techs”, referring mainly to Facebook and Twitter, from which he was banned after the incidents that took place on the US Capitol earlier this year. With the launch, the tycoon wants to get back online.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, but their favorite American president has been silenced. This is unacceptable”, criticized the businessman, in a statement. There aren’t many details yet on how Trump’s social network will work, but it’s speculated that it will be similar to the Gab and Parler platforms.

It is worth remembering that the former American president even launched a social platform at the beginning of the year, called “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump”. Bringing a blog-like format, the network ended up being deactivated less than a month after it debuted, due to lower-than-expected audience.

Investing in other areas

In addition to TRUTH Social, the Republican-led Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) also wants to launch a video-on-demand service. According to the company, the TMTG+ platform will have news, podcasts and entertainment-oriented programs, among other attractions.

The group led by Trump, valued at $875 million, will merge with Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWCA), becoming a publicly traded company. In the future, TMTG plans to invest in a cloud storage service to compete with Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
