Netflix launched the first season of the Tribes of Europa series on Friday (19). The production comes from the company Wiedemann & Berg Television, which was also responsible for the Dark series, launched by the streaming giant between 2017 and 2020.
With a post-apocalyptic adventure plot, Tribes of Europa is committed to the development of a chaotic society, in which three brothers struggle to survive on the European continent after a great catastrophe.
Set in 2074, the story unfolds in a land divided into microstates and tribes. Among them, of course, there are peaceful and bloodthirsty states.
The scripts were created by Philip Koch and the cast features Emilio Sakraya, David Ali Rashed and Oliver Masucci.
Real-life political movements were the inspiration for the series, says screenwriter
In a recent interview with Variety, Philip Koch stated that he was inspired by issues seen in his daily life to compose the characters and the situations that move them. The political situation in recent years has had a strong influence on roadmaps, especially the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.
“In 2016, we had separatism happening extensively in Europe, but the doomsday apocalyptic vibes were not on the table,” said Koch, adding that these movements were just a kind of subtext of what was yet to come.
Thus, the screenwriter ensures that the series’ initiative is to be able to make some criticisms of contemporary times in a fun science fiction saga.
“For me, it’s a series with tribes that are on a dystopian side, but not everyone there is dystopian,” he argued. “It is a completely new world to be discovered,” he said, inviting viewers to watch the production.
So be sure to check it out! Tribes of Europa has six episodes and all are now available on Netflix.
