There are only a few weeks left until the biggest wrestling night, and the WrestleMania 39 card is almost ready. We have eight confirmed matches and several more with actively developing storylines. Between what’s confirmed and what’s rumored, most of the major WWE names have something to do, but there are still a few superstars who have been appearing regularly on TV over the past few months, and right now they look like they might be eliminated. However, according to new rumors, WWE may have a plan to solve this problem.
This morning on Twitter WrestleVotes published a small piquant fact. The publication reported that WWE is preparing to add two additional matches to the map: one team match for men with four participants and one team match for women with four participants. It is reported that Alpha Academy, The Street Profits, Viking Raiders, Braun Strowman and Ricochet will be represented among the men, the latter of which still needs a cool name. The possible participants of the women’s match were not mentioned.
Now, obviously, with all due respect to WrestleVotes, right now we need to treat this as a rumor. WWE has not confirmed this on television or even hinted at it, and other regular wrestling sources have not said anything. So, right now it’s a big possibility.
This, as they say, makes a lot of sense. There are those who think a smaller WrestleMania card is better, but I want the performers I watch every week to get a moment on the biggest nights of the year. And also, even if you think that WrestleMania videos should not be distributed. It is hard to imagine a world in which The Street Profits and especially Brown Strowman would not be on the map of “mania”. They’re very tired of the crowd, and someone like Chad Gable does a great job almost every week bringing up the best talent on Raw.
It’s also hard to imagine a world in which WWE leaves Ronda Rousey, Liv Morgan and Alexa Bliss among many other worthy women out. I love seeing Lita and Trish again. They are both some of the best women of all time, and I enjoyed their feud with Damage CTRL. I’m thrilled with their performance at Mania, but right now they’re in the middle of one of the three women’s matches on the entire map. We should get the fourth one.
As I said, there were no rumors about female names that appeared along with the tweet, but if I had to choose eight women to write based on recent storylines as well as star power, I would put Ronda Rousey and Shine. Basler, Carmella and Chelsea Green, Natalia and Tegan Knox, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. This still doesn’t include Alexa Bliss, but she can be used in a Bray Wyatt-Bobby Lashley match if that happens, given what’s going on with Bray.
There is no perfect way to map WrestleMania. Everything always comes with compromises. You can have fewer matches and give participants more time, which could potentially lead to better individual moments, but then fans won’t have the opportunity to see some popular characters that are legitimately over. Conversely, you can add a bunch of additional matches, but this will happen at the expense of the time allocated to more popular attractions. Putting one fatal four on Saturday and one fatal four on Sunday, in my opinion, is a great compromise. He adds sixteen performers to the map, but he does it in such a way that it will probably only take twenty minutes every night, especially if you simplify the introductions a little.
We’ll keep you posted as WWE officially confirms the remaining matches on the map. I think there’s a good chance we’ll see this or something similar, at least in the preview, but we’ll just have to wait and see if that happens. And also if they add LA Knight, which seems mandatory considering how he’s going through. YEAH.
