The awards season is currently in full swing, and moviegoers are watching their favorite projects and/or actors being rewarded for their work. While all of this is leading up to the upcoming Oscars, the acclaimed Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night, which included several groundbreaking wins. In fact, the SAG Awards 2023 ceremony had everything from an emotional Brendan Fraser to a Parent Trap reunion. Plus one grand tour of the stage, which is sure to bypass online.
One of the reasons fans watch awards ceremonies from home is that various celebrities gather in the same room, which usually leads to a few viral moments blowing up the internet. The SAG Awards 2023 was no exception, although, fortunately, it passed without any wild antics on stage, such as last year’s Oscar. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the stellar event.
Brendan Fraser’s Speech about Emotional Acceptance
If you haven’t lived under a rock, you probably know that Brendan Fraser is in the midst of an exciting comeback. Affectionately named Brenaissance, the 54-year-old actor has received universal praise for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. Fraser performed well during the awards season and is the favorite to receive the coveted Oscar for Best Actor. This trend continued when Fraser received the SAG Award, and he was thrilled during his last acceptance speech. You can check the speech for yourself below:

Jessica Chastain stumbled on her way to the stage
In addition to the great looks of the stars, award ceremonies usually deliver one or two viral moments that were not planned. Unfortunately for actress Jessica Chastain, she found herself at the center of one of these mistakes… literally. Because when she was walking up the stairs to the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Performance by an actress in a TV movie or a limited series (for her role in the movie “George and Tammy”), she stumbled. This video didn’t take long to get around social media, including some comparisons to Jennifer Lawrence’s fall before accepting her Oscar. Watch the clip below:

Oh. Although Jessica Chastain didn’t actually fall, she had to catch herself trying to climb the stairs to get the SAG award. But given the fact that she was wearing a dress, you can’t blame her for not being able to see the stairs she was allowed to climb. Hey, even amazing talents like Chastain sometimes fall.
Parent-Trap Reunion Kids of the 90s Didn’t Know What They Needed
Actors such as Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Kuan were noted for their work on the films “The Whale” and “Everything Everywhere and at Once,” respectively, nostalgic feelings were real for the SAG Awards 2023. And the kids of the 90s were going crazy everywhere because of the amazing Parent Trap reunion, which also happened at the star-studded event. Namely, because Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter invited her partner in the film Elaine Hendricks, known as the villain Meredith Blake, on a date. See how Chessie and Meredith are back together after all these years.
Where is Lindsay Lohan when you need her so much? The remake of the 90s “Parent Trap” is one that countless children have watched since its release, and it still remains part of the pop culture landscape. This is partly due to the cast: Both Lisa Ann Walter and Elaine Hendricks hold a special place in the hearts of children of the 90s.
Ke Huy Quan’s emotional, groundbreaking victory
Although Brendan Fraser was thrilled to accept his SAG award, he wasn’t the only one who shed tears at yesterday’s ceremony. Jamie Lee Curtis also showed how much it means to her, as did her co-star in “Everything Everywhere and at Once” Ke Huy Quan. The return of the Indiana Jones star was a powerful story, and it became even more significant when he became the first Asian actor to receive the award for Best Supporting Actor. You can see his understandable emotional reaction/acceptance speech below:

Obviously, this year’s SAG Awards was a lively event. And it should be interesting to see how the rest of the awards season ultimately works out, especially the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Will the winners remain the same, or will I be unexpectedly neglected? Only time will tell, but there will undoubtedly be a lot of viral moments. In the meantime, check out the movie’s release dates in 2023 to plan your next movie.
