The Bold Type‘s season 5 debut episode showed the audience that Kat (Aisha Dee) was ignoring all messages from Eva (Alex Paxton-Beesley) after a tempestuous skirmish between the two. For this reason, production showrunner Wendy Straker Hauser commented on this relationship in the series during a recent interview with TV Line.
“We had a lot of conversations so that our stories were collaborative,” revealed the producer in reference to the participation of actress Aisha Dee in the process of creating this particular plot.
According to her, the premiere shown last Wednesday (26) was about what seemed to be the correct and good at the same time for both characters, in addition to the actresses who play them. “I believe we’ve arrived at a good place where we can be authentic about relationships and not enact the villainy of certain characters,” she said.
“With our meetings, we created a plausible resolution for this story in a way that felt real and true to Aisha and also to Kat,” added the showrunner.
The Bold Type: pandemic accelerated the couple’s outcome in the series
The coronavirus pandemic has brought complications to several television productions. It was no different with The Bold Type, and in that sense, Wendy Straker Hauser argued, even during the interview, that there was already a prediction in the original story of separating the two characters at some point. However, the pandemic has accelerated the process.
“This plot has always been part of what we planned for Kat’s arc. This is just being able to fall in love with someone, having an open dialogue and making it mature in an interesting way ”, she explained.
“Perhaps even Eva’s mind was open to change at certain levels with respect to many things,” shared Hauser. “Kat could also see other things and make the world a better place, but unfortunately we didn’t have the space to develop all of that, so we got to that point that way,” she concluded.
