Sora on Smash Bros. Ultimate Was ‘Lucky Throw’, Says Director

Sora, from Kingdom Hearts, is the latest character to be added to the Super Smash Bros. cast. Ultimate, which maybe took some by surprise. In fact, many do not even imagine that this inclusion was only possible thanks to a real fluke.

In a special column in Famitsu magazine, Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s director, revealed that the inclusion was something that happened by chance. During an awards show, he ended up meeting a Disney representative and commented on Sora being a highly sought after character by the production team’s audience and interest – something that, oddly enough, repeats the story of how Kingdom Hearts was created in the 2000s.

It was from this occasional conversation that Disney, Square Enix, and Nintendo began to debate the inclusion of the Keyblade holder in the arena combat game. Once the agreement was made, it was time to adapt the protagonist of Kingdom Hearts to the game’s universe, something that the team found quite complicated due to all the impositions. However, for him the reaction of the public after the announcement made it all worthwhile.
