Member and soloist of CLC Song spoke about the creative solution that was included in her upcoming debut EP.
The singer recently uploaded a video to her YouTube channel discussing her new single “Not A Friend”, which she released earlier this month. In the new video, Song shared some sources of inspiration for the track, as well as the theme “early 2000s” for her upcoming EP.
“I told my producer that this year I really want to focus on a more adult concept,” she said of the new single. “This will be the whole theme of [my] EP, which we are trying so hard to complete to release it in the middle of this year.”
“We talked about wanting to be more mature in our music, and I decided that I wanted the concept of my songs to be similar to the atmosphere of the early 2000s, the fashion of the 2000s, but my own adaptation of the fashion and sound of the 2000s. for me,” Song shared.
The singer added that she decided to express a more vulnerable side of herself in the song “Not A Friend”, inspired by her experience of “toxic friendship”.
“I thought this song would be very interesting because when you grow up… there are people who come and go out of your life because they want something from you,” Sorn explained.
Song went on to say that she wants “Not A Friend” to become a dance song for fans of her k-pop group CLC, despite the fact that it looks more like a “ballad, slow song”.
Meanwhile, Song previously explained that CLC did not break up, despite the fact that most of the members left the long-time agency CUBE Entertainment.
