Huge spoilers ahead for Scream VI.
The renaissance of the horror genre shows no signs of slowing down: in 2023, several killer novelties have already appeared, such as M3GAN and Scream VI. The latest slasher broke Wes Craven’s franchise records upon release, and fans reacted to his twists and turns, especially those related to the Ghostface personality. And one of the Ghostface killers from Scream VI revealed a dark part of his backstory that was eventually cut out.
Scream VI constantly destroyed the expectations of fans, starting with a wild opening scene and ending with the finale. The franchise has opened new horizons with three different killers under the mask of Ghostface, namely Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), Ethan (Jack Champion) and Quinn (Liana Liberato). The latter actress recently told Collider about her experience working on the new film “Scream” and how the family history of the villains could have an even darker twist. As she put it,
There were conversations about Mom that didn’t make it into the movie. I think there were a few of our lines— well, not me, but Ethan kind of helped [Detective] Bailey with our mother’s death because she didn’t agree with things. [Laughs] And it was cut out! It was something. This phrase always made me giggle during filming because I thought: “This is crazy.” I can’t believe we killed our mother.”
Talk about cooling. While in Scream VI, the Richie family sought revenge for the events of the fifth film, their mother was noticeably absent. She wasn’t seen or mentioned throughout the film, but it doesn’t seem to have always been that way. Was Mrs. Is Mrs. Kirsch really the first victim of this trio of murderers? We’ll have to wait and see if we get more information from the makers of the Radio Silence movie.
Liana Liberato’s comments to Collider will certainly give rise to several fan theories about the new slasher. Most films go through various incarnations, and the material remains on the floor of the editing room. Scream VI was no exception, but this oddity in the origin story of his killers is definitely intriguing. Finding out that they were so enraged by Richie’s death that they were willing to kill the matriarch of the family to get revenge would definitely show how crazy the last Ghost Face killers were.
After all, that line was cut, so technically killing Mrs. Kirsch is not in the official canon of the Scream franchise. Oddly enough, I didn’t even think about the killer’s wife/mother, suggesting that maybe Bailey was a single parent. But initially there were other plans to further concretize this bloody story.
Quinn had a really interesting arc in Scream VI, where Liana Liberato played a new character to perfection. Although she was seemingly attacked and killed by a Ghostly Face in this chilling staircase scene, it turns out that they faked her death with Bailey’s help. It turned out that she was alive when the three killers unmasked the masks, and it turned out that they were related to Sam’s killer boyfriend from the previous movie. Although Quinn was shot in the head, she was the one who attacked Gale in her apartment.
“Scream VI” is still in theaters. Be sure to check out the movie’s release dates in 2023 to plan your next movie.
