According to a new study published in JAMA magazine, experts explained the main symptoms seen in patients with 2019-nCoV. With this study, it is aimed for healthcare professionals to distinguish between patients with Corona virus and those with ordinary flu complaints.
Corona virus, which has emerged in Wuhan, People’s Republic of China and one of the most serious epidemics of recent times, has caused many people to die. In the context of the virus, which has no cure yet, China has quarantined many gigantic cities and declared a curfew.
Experts on the virus, which shows the main basic symptoms in infected people, published a new study. The new study published by JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) reveals the main symptoms seen in patients affected by the Wuhan Corona virus. The main purpose of this study is to enable healthcare professionals to distinguish patients with Corona virus from those who come with ordinary flu complaints.
The most obvious symptoms detected in patients with the corona virus:
For the results published in the Journal of the American Medical Association on February 7, 2020, doctors followed the clinical features of 138 patients hospitalized at Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital from January 1 to January 28, 2020. According to studies, while high fever was observed as the main symptom, there were few reports of headache, dizziness, nausea or vomiting.
Dry cough, on the other hand, was present in slightly more than half of patients, and only a third of patients reported complaining of muscle pain. However, no one reported any complaints of runny or nasal congestion. All these results will help separate 2019-nCoV from the common flu.
The 5 most basic symptoms seen in 138 patients are:
High Fever – Seen in 98.6% of patients.
Fatigue – seen in 69.6% of patients.
Dry cough – seen in 59.4% of patients.
Muscle pain – seen in 34.8% of patients.
Shortness of Breath – Seen in 31.2% of patients.
The most obvious symptoms seen in intensive care patients:

What treatments has China tried to combat the virus?
The study also looked at the treatments the Chinese tried for these 138 patients. According to the shared results, it was stated that many patients were given antibiotics, and the main treatment methods tried against Wuhan Corona virus were Tamiflu (oseltamivir), oxygen supplementation and glucocorticoid therapy.
Treatments tried on 138 patients:
Antiviral (Oseltamivir) – It was applied to 89.9% of the patients.
Oxygen supplement – applied to 76.8% of patients.
Glucocorticoid therapy – Applied to 44.9% of patients.
Experts also shared the results of recent reviews on February 3, 2020, just before the report was published. Accordingly, 47 (34.1%) of 138 patients recovered and were discharged, 85 (61.6%) were still in the hospital and 6 (4.3%) died.
