One of the most iconic villains in cinema is back. Netflix today released the first trailer for “Ratched”, a series that rescues its title from the terrible nurse of “Stranger in the Nest” (1975), a role that won the Oscar for actress Louise Fletcher.
Sarah Paulson takes on the character’s mantle in the series, which takes place before the events of the film. The debut was for September 18.
“Ratched” was created by Ryan Murphy, with whom Paulson has worked on “American Horror Story”, and debutant Evan Romansky. The cast also features Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon (“Sex and the City”), Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”), Brandon Flynn (“13 Reasons Why”) and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Daredevil”).
The plot begins in 1947, when Mildred Ratched is hired to work in a sanatorium where illegal experiments may be taking place. We soon discovered, however, that she has a secret mission in this new job.
The film, starring Jack Nicholson, takes place in the 1960s and shows a criminal who managed to escape from prison by claiming insanity by ending up in the same sanatorium, under the care of a more experienced Ratched (Fletcher).
