SanDisk presented its new products at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. The company unveils the world’s highest capacity portable SSD of 8 GB, as well as the 1 TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C for smartphones and laptops.
Portable SSDs usually come with a maximum capacity of 2 TB. Although it is possible to come across 4 TB SSDs, it seems to take time to become widespread. SanDisk, however, has continued to work on portable SSDs further, and the CES 2020 came up with a 8 TB portable SSD prototype.
The company unveiled the world’s highest-capacity portable SSD, small enough to fit in your pocket. The drive looks a bit larger than the company’s Extreme Portable External SSD models, but it is normal considering it has a higher capacity and a data transfer rate of 20 Gbps.
Since the device is currently a prototype, it is unclear when SanDisk will launch a portable 8TB SSD. However, considering that even 4 TB drives are not common in the market, it may take some time before the market is ready for such a large and expensive option. However, it is no surprise that SanDisk is the first brand to be introduced with an 8 TB SSD. The company introduced the world’s first 1TB microSD card at the beginning of last year.
Sandisk also introduced 1TB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe memory and will be available soon. Dual Drive Luxe works with both standard USB-A devices and smartphones and laptops with USB-C support thanks to its dual-port design. To switch from USB-A to USB-C, just turn it 180 degrees. The all-metal construction gives the driver an elegant look that can also be used as a key ring.
The new 1TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe is expected to be available for sale by the end of the first quarter of 2020. SanDisk’s Extreme Portable SSDs stand out because they are reliable, economical, and new 8 TB SSDs can be a good investment for the future. In addition, as the transition to USB-C accelerates with new generation devices, the Ultra Dual Drive Luxe can easily transfer data between old and new devices, eliminating the need for an adapter.
