Samsung closes factory in Brazil because of coronavirus

Samsung announced on Tuesday (24) that it temporarily closed the Manaus plant. The initiative aims to collaborate with the quarantine encouraged by national authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) due to the new coronavirus. In a note, the South Korean giant says the measure is valid until March 29.

This is the South Korean conglomerate’s second attitude to the pandemic. Last week, Galaxy S20 deliveries were anticipated in the domestic market. Consumers started to receive it at home or pick it up in stores two weeks ahead of schedule.

Although Samsung chose to close the factory in the North of the country, the decision does not affect the manufacturing operation in Campinas. In the city, procedures remain normal, only employees of the office and the research and development sector have been ordered to work from home.

The Sammobile portal highlights that the brand’s largest Latin American market is located in Brazil. In the country, the manufacturer has received a high demand for intermediate and advanced smartphones, home appliances and QLED TVs.

In addition to closing a factory in Brazil, Samsung closed other factories in India, Slovakia and South Korea. The Covid-19 pandemic also affected the operation of the brand’s physical stores, which had their doors closed in Canada, China, Malaysia and in the United States.
