In the following tutorial, learn how to use 7-Zip to compress folders with a password on your computer and avoid being curious. The procedure was performed on a Windows 10 PC, but the tips also apply to previous versions of Microsoft’s system.

Step 1. Download and install 7-Zip on your computer. To do this, after downloading the installer, access the system downloads folder and run the file. Then, just click “Install” to proceed with the installation;

Step 2. When finished, click “Close” to close the installation wizard;

Step 3. Locate the folder you want to password protect and right-click on it. In the context menu, go to “7-Zip” and click “Add to compressed file …”;

Step 4. In “Compressed file format” choose “zip”. Right below, under “Compression level”, select “Store”. On the right, under “Encryption”, enter the desired password. Once this is done, press “OK”;

Step 5. Now, it is important to delete the original folder, which is unprotected. To do this permanently, without the files being sent to the trash, use the shortcut “Shift + Delete” and confirm with “Yes”;

Step 6. When you need to open any file stored in your protected folder, you will need to enter the password.
