PUBG: Krafton made it official, this Friday (10), that PUBG: Battlegrounds will become free-to-play for PC and consoles from January 12, 2022. The announcement was made last night (09), at the awards show of The Game Awards 2021 (TGA), and received more details today.
First, to reward those who purchased the game and are a longtime player, the PUBG – Special Commemorative Pack, which includes a free upgrade to Battleground Plus, will be distributed. In addition, the pack will also offer unique skins and a nameplate.
“Free-to-play battlegrounds give us the opportunity to expand our community even further and bring all the excitement of PUBG and battle royale to more people, as well as building more friendships and, to be honest, more targets for our veteran players. In many ways, moving to free-to-play was our natural next step,” John Yang, Krafton’s Product Marketing Manager, told PlayStation Blog.
According to him, since the launch of the game 5 years ago, more than 14 billion hours of gameplay on the 8 maps have been recorded. The representative also said that the new free version will have improvements and news that will be revealed in the coming months.
