Pokémon Detective Pikachu: Although the film did well at the box office, Justice Smith asks fans to bury their expectations.Detective Pikachu was released in theaters around the world in 2019, shortly before Sonic The Movie did. Since then, there has been talk about whether Warner Bros would greenlight a second installment. Nothing has been officially said, beyond what one of his stars commented in an interview with Inverse. Justice Smith would like to reprise his role, but he believes Detective Pikachu 2 is not going to materialize.
“I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2,” he commented, then added. “I don’t know if it will be done.” However, he has immediately recommended that fans “bury their hopes”, as in his opinion it is unlikely to happen. “I really hope it gets done. Honestly, I am a huge fan. Who knows, who knows I hope so”.
When Detective Pikachu debuted in theaters, back in May 2019, it soon became the most successful video game-based movie ever made. In just a few months it managed to raise $ 436 million worldwide, which means that it had surpassed the previous record, which was briefly held by the Warcraft movie, with $ 433 million in its coffers.
The story of the film begins with the mysterious disappearance of Father Tim, an experienced policeman of great prestige. The young man gets down to work and begins to investigate on his own, but everything changes when he finds an unusual Pikachu in his house. And is that instead of intoning its usual strident ‘Pika-pika’, the creature speaks as if it were a human … although only Tim hears it that way. Together, they will have to unravel the mystery.
Detective Pikachu may not have a sequel (although they say hope is the last thing to be lost), but Sonic will return to the big screen in 2022. This was recently announced by Paramount Pictures. Filming is already underway.
