Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-2 in the Premier League today. Here are our ratings:
(score 6 corresponds to the average)
David de Gea 4 – his distribution and decision-making amaze me. Smart save in the 83rd minute.
Aaron Van Bissaka 3,5 — some good tackles, as it was, but he is much to blame for Arsenal’s first goal. I don’t even think he knew Nketiah was there until the ball was in the net.
Raphael Varane 9 – excellent in defense.
Lisandro Martinez 7 – fantastic resourcefulness and application to loop the ball to his goal. He didn’t seem to want to push the ball forward, which he usually does with honor; his dependence on De Gea limited United’s play in Arsenal’s half.
Luke Shaw 8 – becomes Mr. Constancy and at the same time consistently ranks among the best on the field. However, he did not dare to defend himself from Saki.
Scott McTominay 3 is a shockingly awful walkthrough. There was a spectacular fuss in places, but Arsenal completely dominated the midfield. Van Bissake didn’t help in any way in Arsenal’s final goal.
Christian Eriksen 4.5 – struggled to influence the game. The defenders did not help either. The usual decent passage.
Antony 5.5 – some great touches on the ball, but not threatening… at all.
Bruno Fernandes 7.5 is a very commendable game in midfield. However, he lacked real magic in attack.
Marcus Rashford 9 – what a goal. Some of his tricks didn’t work, but still threatened and attacked White and Tomiyasu every time he kept the ball in the wrong half of the field.
Wout Weghorst 8.5 – brilliant target shooting. However, United are not used to looking for him in the penalty area yet.
Substitutes
Fred 6 – failed to negate Arsenal’s pressure from midfield.
Alejandro Garnacho N/A — late cameo.
