Nvidia announces GPU series for cryptocurrency mining

Nvidia announced on Thursday (18) Nvidia CMP HX, a line of GPUs developed to perform professional cryptocurrency mining. The component will not serve to improve graphics in games, the company joked in a statement.

The acronyms of the new processor mean “Cryptocurrency Mining Processor”, something like “Cryptocurrency mining processor” in free translation. The equipment will be launched in the first and second quarter of this year in the company’s main authorized partners.

According to Nvidia, the product does not have a video output, for example, but improves cooling and works with lower frequency and voltage, reducing consumption and improving mining efficiency.

There will be four different models of the GPU: 30HX, 40HX, 50HX and 90HX. Each will have a different hashrate. The hashrate is a metric of the mining universe that defines the speed of blockchain resolution that a computer can process. Nvidia video cards will range from 26 MH / s to 86 MH / s.

The computing company also explained that the operating parameter of the processor is Ethereum, a decentralized platform that uses the “ether” cryptocurrency in contracts.

Mining on RTX 3060

In addition to specific GPUs, Nvidia also explained that the GeForce RTX 3060, which will be launched on February 25, will have components to optimize the work of those who are in this universe of virtual currencies.

“The RTX 3060 software drivers are designed to detect specific attributes of Ethereum’s cryptocurrency mining algorithms and therefore limit the hashrate, which means mining efficiency, to about 50%”, informs the company text.
