New Snapdragon Chip Will Offer Fast Charging Up To 150W

Snapdragon: According to a well-known expert on information leaks, Qualcomm will present on November 30th its new top-of-the-line chipset, the supposed Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which will be able to provide a fast charging of up to 150W. As published by Digital Chat Station on your Weibo account, these smartphones will be available later this year, to debut on new devices as early as the first quarter of 2022.

The main idea of a fast charge is to bring in a higher voltage and convert it into more power to speed up the process. The standard used today by the California company — called Quick Charge 5 — allows charging speeds ranging from 0 to 50% in just 5 minutes. This technology, called “Dual Charge”, encompasses 12 types of protection, current and temperature, to ensure perfect performance without overheating.

Which devices will be able to receive the new Qualcomm chip?

Expected as the Snapdragon 898, the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will only offer charging speeds of up to 150W from the second batch of chips that will be shipped to customers later this year. The idea is that the first devices launched in 2022 can already arrive with a battery charging time of just 10 minutes.

The companies that currently have devices with higher charging rates, Xiaomi and Motorola, not by chance bring high-end cell phones with Snapdragon chips in their architectures. Launched in August of last year, the Mi 10 Ultra arrived with 120W, while the Legion 2 Pro, from the manufacturer controlled by Lenovo, offers 90W. However, as both companies are expected to launch their flagships by the end of the year, they may not yet support Qualcomm’s new rate.
