For the first time since 1996, the 2023 Cup Series All-Star Race will be held at the legendary North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Speedway Motorsports and NASCAR officials announced the decision with Governor Roy Cooper on the steps of the North Carolina Historical Museum in Raleigh on Thursday morning.

The NASCAR world reacted to this exciting news on Twitter.

“This is justice for a small mining community that was screwed up decades ago and left to rot in the name of profit. I repeat again, it MEANS something,” said another.

“NASCAR RACING is coming home!!!!! As a child who grew up and heard the track, I’m thrilled about it! added another one.

The North Wilkesboro Speedway hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race in 1949. Back in November 2021, the state approved a budget of $18 million to repair the infrastructure of the historic highway.

Last week, Dale Earnhardt Jr. competed in front of a sold-out crowd in North Wilkesboro in a late-model production car race. The legendary racer played an important role in the return of racing to the iconic race track.

The 2023 All-Star Race will take place in May 2021 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the NASCAR season.
