Minecraft: The k-pop phenomenon BTS played a very different show this Friday (17th). The group performed to a virtual audience and in an experience made entirely in Minecraft. The performance was assembled by the Noxcrew creators community and ended the broadcast of ESCAPE2021, an interactive year-end event organized by YouTube.
In four and a half minutes, two songs were played: “Butter”, which is the YouTube record for being the fastest video to reach 10 million views, and “Permission to Dance”, a single written in collaboration with Ed Sheeran.
The choice to use Minecraft seems unusual, as it doesn’t usually host shows of this style. However, it makes a lot of sense: Microsoft’s platform recently became the first game to break the 1 trillion views barrier on the video service.
This was the first time the group acted officially in Minecraft. Previously, BTS had already performed a short-lived concert and exclusive release of a music video on Fortnite, another multi-purpose digital platform that has gone beyond multiplayer matches.
