Mercedes plans electric sedan to compete with Tesla and Porsche

With an eye on the electric sedan segment, Mercedes-Benz would be planning to launch a luxurious version of the EQS, which promises to rival the Tesla Model S P100D and Porsche Taycan, among other models. The novelty, prepared by the AMG division, would reach the market after the conventional EQS, whose sales are expected to start in 2021.

According to Autocar, the EQS AMG will outperform the 2020 version of the AMG S63 4MATIC. The sports sedan features a V8 turbo gasoline engine with 600 horsepower and 90 kgfm of torque, figures that would be even greater in the electric-powered model, expected to bring a new modular electric transmission system.

With this, the performance of the new model would be far superior to that of the current EQS. The model that is already confirmed has two electric motors, 470 hp of power and 77.4 kgfm of torque, being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds.

The battery of the current model supports fast charging, reaching 80% of the charge in 20 minutes, if connected to a 350 kW socket. Its autonomy is 700 km, but probably these numbers will be different in the version prepared by AMG, due to the increase in performance.

Competitors

If the launch is confirmed, the Mercedes EQS AMG will be a direct competitor of the Tesla S. The electric car from Elon Musk’s company has two electric motors whose combined power generates 689 hp of power and 109.3 kgfm of torque in the P100D version. It is only 2.8 seconds for him to leave 0 and reach 100 km / h.

The Porsche Taycan delivers even more power, reaching 761 hp in the Turbo S variant, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h also in 2.8 seconds. One of its highlights is the fast charging system, which guarantees enough energy to run 100 km with just five minutes in the socket.
