MediaTek Will Introduce The Wi-Fi 7 Standard At CES 2022

MediaTek: The latest wireless standard, Wi-Fi 6E has yet to become fully popular, but some companies are already developing the next generation. One of them is MediaTek, which this Thursday (18th) revealed plans to present Wi-Fi 7 technology at the 2022 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Attending an annual developer meeting, MediaTek Vice President of Product Marketing James Chen provided details on the future wireless standard. According to him, the new wireless network protocol will bring several advantages, starting with the speed 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.

In addition to the increase in speed, the executive said that Wi-Fi 7 will present a significant reduction in latency. This is good news for gamers, as every millisecond is essential for better online gaming performance, and also for anyone with a smart home.

Another benefit pointed out by Chen is the ability to reduce interference from signals from other nearby networks, found in the technology. With this, your home network would not suffer interference problems caused by neighbors’ routers, for example.

No debut date

Although the Taiwanese processor maker plans to hold a Wi-Fi 7 demo at CES 2022, there is no specific date for the release of the new standard at this time. According to the brand’s representative, the protocol development process is still “very early”.

One possibility he raised is that the technology could begin to be implemented in the second quarter of 2022. But that depends on the Wi-Fi Alliance, a non-profit organization responsible for the wireless standard.

CES 2022 will take place between January 5th and 8th in Las Vegas (United States), returning to be held in person after the blockages caused by the pandemic.
