Mancini: “Italy has a duty to always win”

Roberto Mancini, coach of Italy, acknowledged this Saturday that he faces the 2020 Euro Cup with the aim of being champion, considering that the selected “azzurro” has “the duty to always win” in the great international competitions.

“In my presentation I said that I want to win the European Championship because one always goes out to win. Italy has a duty to always win, even when it is not favorite,” Mancini said in statements to the Italian chain “Sky Sport” after the draw for the group stage of the European Championship held in Bucharest.

Italy was framed in group A with Switzerland, Turkey and Wales. She will be in charge of opening the tournament on June 12 at the Roman Olympic Stadium against the Turkish team.

“We have a good group and this is positive. Our goal is to win. We have no other goal,” he insisted.

Mancini, who was the protagonist of a perfect qualifying phase with Italy by winning the 10 games played, acknowledged that there are teams more prepared than his, but promised battle.

“I don’t think there are favorite teams against us, but there are teams that are smarter because they started working before us,” he said.

With regard to his group, Mancini warned that “you have to play all the games” and highlighted the high level of Switzerland, Wales and Turkey.

“Switzerland is tough, Wales can be the surprise and Turkey has good young people, it went undefeated against France,” he said.

“We know what we can give and we are clear that we have to improve. We did well in the classification group, but the road is long. We must take it into account for what we did well, but now it does not count anymore,” he concluded.
