Manchester United may have targeted Milan defender Theo Hernandez, according to some reports from Italy.
Calcio Mercato Web claims that the French star has attracted the attention of the “red devils” who are planning a summer transition.
The Italian publication claims that United plans to offer the value of Hernandez in the form of an exchange deal, in fact, offering the player “two for one”.
It is assumed that Diogo Dalot, who spent a year on loan from Rossoneri, and Anthony Martial will be the makeovers in the offer.
And given that his club reportedly values Hernandez at around 60 million euros, this offer would be tempting for Milan.
However, given that the contracts of both United stars will end at the end of next season, not to mention Martial’s salary of 250,000 pounds a week, the Red Devils will have to invest extra money to make the deal work.
All of this seems incredibly unlikely for a number of reasons.
Firstly, exchange transactions are usually very rare due to the complexity of their execution – not to mention the fact that three players are involved in the transaction.
Secondly, to let Dalot go after his revival under the leadership of Eric ten Haga would be a very strange decision, especially when the player himself seems ready to renew his contract with the club after he enjoyed the growth of his form.
Next up will be Martial, who, despite his injury problems, will be the only central striker in Ten Haga’s squad in June when the loan of Vout Weghorst from Burnley expires.
And finally, the exchange of the only right-back that the coach has trusted for a long period, in addition to the only striker he has, for a left-back simply does not make any sense from the point of view of the formation of the squad.
Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malasia are both good options at left-back, and while Theo Hernandez is undoubtedly a world-class player in his day, he just doesn’t play in the position that this Manchester United team needs to spend money and players on.
