Magnum PI: How Will Kumu React to The Capture of Magnum and Higgins at The Scene of The Crime? The Actress Has Thoughts

Magnum P.I. has had a wild ride over the last year since the spring cancellation on CBS, but NBC saved it just in time for the fifth season at the start of the 2023 TV premiere schedule. The show didn’t change much after season 4 ended after Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins (Perdita Weeks) kissed. In the following weeks, they tried to keep their relationship a secret, but several times they met with someone other than Kumu (Amy Hill). So, how would Kumu react if she caught a good Miggy ship sailing? The actress shared her thoughts!

Amy Hill previously shared that Koumou can be the “voice of reason” for Magnum and the “boys,” and she definitely noticed in the latest episode that Higgins’ dogs—once more than willing to terrorize Magnum all over Robin Masters’ estate-were mysteriously good with him. Magnum lied as well as he did at the premiere when he tried to prevent his Godfather from finding Higgins in his kitchen, and it seemed that she could have been the first to connect the dots.

When the actress spoke to CinemaBlend about the return of Magnum P.I., she shared her vision of how Koumou would react if she caught them in the act at an early stage:

I feel like she would say, “You know, personally, I’m not sure this is a good idea.” [laughs] I love them. They had such sexual chemistry, but I also know that Magnum is not really the kind of guy who is dedicated to the cause, and she’s had her heart broken several times. Part of me, because I love them both so much that I don’t want them to get hurt. So part of me as a Godfather wouldn’t be thrilled about it. And I still don’t know how much I like this idea, but it’s just a Godmother. Because Kumu is also not so sure that she believes in love. She had her heart broken several times.

Koumou, Rick (Zachary Knighton) and T.S. (Stephen Hill) haven’t witnessed all the heartwarming moments between Magnum and Higgins over the years, so he keeps track that the cultural curator may not be sure they should do something that could hurt them both. Also, Godmother found out because Magnum was hiding Higgins in his kitchen or because the guys didn’t want to terrorize him anymore, maybe it wasn’t ideal!

It should be interesting to see exactly how she finds out about this and how she will react under such circumstances. She wasn’t privy to Rick and T.C.’s theory that Magnum had secretly seen someone’s necklace that they found under his bed, so it could come down to them breaking the news that Higgins or Godmother had found out. In any case, it will definitely change the rules of the game! When I noticed that complications for the group (for example, the changes that Stephen Hill talked about) were probably inevitable, Amy Hill replied:

It’s going to be difficult, and I don’t think the other boys or anyone else in the series is that difficult.

Of course, the characters tend to get into vital situations every week, so there may be more serious difficulties than Magnum and Higgins moving from the territory of “they-they-don’t-they” firmly into “they will.” Fortunately, before the premiere, the show received a lot of advertising from its new network, which could attract new viewers in addition to existing fans.

And these fans came to the defense of the show in the period between the cancellation of CBS and the official news that Magnum and company will come to NBC! In fact, Amy Hill shared that she feels more connected to fans after their campaign to save Magnum PI, and Stephen Hill reflected on their support in the “darkest hour” after the cancellation.

In the meantime, you can look forward to the new episodes of Magnum P.I. on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. If you’ve missed any of Season 5 so far, or just want to revisit the earliest Ohana episodes online, you can find the newest episodes streaming with a Peacock Premium subscription!
