MadameWeb Release Date Postponed Along with Untitled Sony Marvel Universe Movie

With so many balls in the air for Marvel these days from Sony and the MCU, delays and schedule postponements are basically a fact of life. Now that includes the upcoming newcomer to the Sony Marvel universe, Madame Web, whose upcoming movie just took a little breather.

“Madame Web” starring Dakota Johnson was postponed from the original release date of July 7, 2023 to October 6 of the same year. It’s not such a big setback compared to others in the history of Marvel and Sony, but it’s also not the only production facing such changes at the moment. In addition to “Madame Web”, another unnamed Sony/Marvel movie had more significant release dates: from October 6, 2023 to June 7, 2024.

Some suggest that the untitled film could be the next Spider-Man movie (in which Tom Holland may or may not play again), although it’s hard to say in advance. Meanwhile, the new Madame Web slot has a success story for Sony’s Marvel offerings, including the widely successful debuts for Venom 2018 and its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage 2021. Both films were released in October of the respective years, so maybe Sony is taking the “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” approach.

“Madame Web” will tell the story of the titled clairvoyant ally of Spider-Man, whose psychic abilities allow you to perform incredible feats of presence and foresight. According to Sony’s teaser synopsis for the film “Madame Web,” “the film will be the origin story of the clairvoyant Madame Web, whose psychic abilities allow her to see the world of spiders.” In past stories, she often bridged the gap between different versions of Spider-Man from an alternate universe, which could indicate a multiverse-oriented story. Some will recognize the image of Madame Cobweb from the fan-favorite game “Spider-Man: Destroyed Dimensions”, where she gave instructions to various versions of the web.

In addition to Johnson, who will play the main role, Sidney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahir Rahim, Mike Epps and Adam Scott will also star in Madame Web. Although neither of them has revealed their roles, it looks like it will only be a matter of time. In addition, the mere knowledge that Scott will star in a superhero movie is probably enough to excite any fan of “Parks and Recreation” at least a little.

There’s still a hell of a lot of time to go before the release of “Madame Web” and the untitled film, but fortunately, impatient fans will have something to think about thanks to the endless stream of Marvel releases. We hope that time flies as well as Captain Marvel herself.

“Madame Web” will be released on October 6, 2023, and the untitled Sony/Marvel movie will be released on June 7, 2024.
