A stellar soundtrack for the upcoming Barbie movie has been announced, which includes tracks from Lizzo, HAIM, Charli XCX, Tame Impala and others.
The film directed by Greta Gerwig has already become one of the most anticipated releases of 2023, despite the fact that details about the plot remain scarce. Now, to add to the hype, the network teased a stellar soundtrack.
The soundtrack featured a photo of Margot Robbie, who plays the main role in the film, in full Barbie outfit, holding a newspaper, which depicts 17 artists who will take part in the soundtrack.
The release is scheduled for July 21 — the same day the film hits theaters worldwide — Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Gayle, HAIM and Ice Spice are listed as appearing in “Barbie: The Album” along with HAIM, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress and Kid Lara.
The Tamed Impala is also listed among the artists who have contributed, as is the lead actor Ryan Gosling.
Despite the fact that his acting career is most widely known, Gosling is also known for his musical abilities in the past. This was especially shown in the 2016 film La La Land, in which he sang, danced and played the piano with Emma Stone.
Mark Ronson has also been appointed executive producer of the album, and according to Rolling Stone magazine, the list is not complete yet, as the names of other artists have not yet been announced.
Earlier this week, Dua Lipa took to social media to tease her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack. The premiere is scheduled for midnight today (May 25). The preview showed that the song is called “Dance The Night” and has a strong disco influence thanks to the lyrics “Just come come for the ride”.
Back in April, it was confirmed that the singer and songwriter would also appear in the film, playing a variation of Barbie in the style of a mermaid.
Unfortunately, there is still no indication that Aqua will be involved in the upcoming film, despite the fact that the Danish band is still known for their 1997 hit song “Barbie Girl”. However, there have been nods to the song in recent weeks, and Ava Max and Alice Glass have recreated the track in their own signature styles.
“Barbie: The Album” is already available for pre-order on vinyl, cassette and CD. Limited edition options are also offered, including vinyl records in the colors “Cotton Candy”, “Hot Pink”, “Embossing” and “Pink Flower”.
Before the announcement of the album, a new global trailer for the film also appeared, watch it below.
This is the third trailer for Barbie — the first paid reference to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and a story by Helen Mirren, and the second gives a more complete idea of the plot and shows cameos by Michael Cera, Will Ferrell and others. .
