After Kia shared photos of the new design of 2021 Sorento, it also announced the car’s technical specifications. The new Kia Sorento comes with designs and features that will make you feel stronger than ever.
After Kia introduced the new Sorento earlier in the week, details about the fourth generation of the mid-size SUV were eagerly awaited. The South Korean automaker announced the technical specifications of the pre-launch car at the Geneva Motor Show, which will be held next month.
The renewed Sorento is 4810 mm long and 10 mm longer than the previous model. It also has a wheelbase 35mm longer (2815mm) than the previous model. The car is 1700mm high and 1900mm wide, including roof rails. The increase in size helps the new Sorento to offer a more comfortable interior with a six-seat layout.
The third row seats can be adjusted depending on whether you need more space or overhead volume for the rearmost passengers. In other words, you can use the car in 3 rows according to your preference or in 2 rows with extra luggage volume.
Under the hood of the 2021 Kia Sorento is a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine that produces 177 horsepower and 265 Nm (195 pound-feet) of torque, as well as an electric motor that produces 59 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque. In other words, the car reaches 227 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque in total. This power coming from the engine is transferred to the wheels with a hybrid powertrain.
There’s also an eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 277 horsepower and 421 Nm of torque to the wheels. Another option is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine. The SmartStream D2.2 engine is capable of producing 199 horsepower and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque.
The new generation of Sorento has managed to lighten about 80 kilograms despite the size increase as a result of using lighter materials. The newly developed platform aims to provide a softer and sharper driving experience while increasing safety with a total of eight airbags, including the knee airbag for the driver.
Finally, the 2021 Kia Sorento has a “multiple collision avoidance automatic braking system” that automatically brakes if the driver loses control of the vehicle after the first collision.
