Jeremy Renner said he broke more than 30 bones during a snowplow accident on New Year’s Day.

The actor was left in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit after being crushed by a snowplow earlier this month. The star of the Marvel cinematic universe received a “blunt chest injury” and “orthopedic injuries”. According to his representative, he underwent emergency surgery the next day.

This weekend (January 21), he shared an update with fans on Instagram, in which he spoke about the extent of his injuries.

He texted: “Morning workouts, decisions — everything has changed this new year…. Born of tragedy for my entire family and quickly focused on uniting effective love.

“I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and taking care of my family and me…. Great love and appreciation to all of you. These 30-odd broken bones will grow together, become stronger, as well as love and connection with family and friends will deepen. Love and blessings to all of you.”

Renner checked out of the hospital last week and returned home after a serious accident, a day after he shared an update on Instagram saying he missed his “happy place.”

After the accident, several directors and film colleagues sent Renner messages of support. James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, tweeted: “My heart is with @JeremyRenner.”

Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel cinematic universe, shared on Instagram: “We pray for our brother @jeremyrenner for a full and speedy recovery. Please send him healing kindness.”

After the news of Renner’s accident and subsequent hospitalization on New Year’s Day, the representative announced on January 2 that he had undergone surgery.

In a statement to Deadline, the actor’s rep added: “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.

“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses caring for him, the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue Service, the Washoe County Sheriff, Reno Mayor Hillary Shiv, as well as the Carano and Murdoch families. They are also extremely overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
