James Gunn Points Out DCEU’s Advantage Over MCU; See What It Is!

James Gunn: The screenwriter and director of Suicide Squad, part of DCEU (DC Expanded Universe – DC Expanded Universe), talked about the advantages and similarities of DC superhero films and MCU (Marvel Cinematographic Universe). In an interview with the New York Times, Gunn said that the films are not all that different, but there are some advantages that fans don’t always consider.

“DC differs from Marvel mainly due to the format of the films. Productions like Shazam! reach a larger audience, not always being aimed only at the family, while Marvel films have this characteristic”, said the director. He is referring to more adult jokes and controversial themes, such as the Suicide Squad.

James Gunn is no stranger to the MCU. After all, he was also responsible for the Guardians of the Galaxy saga, which he also refers to as being “films unlike any other”. For him, the world of superheroes offers different possibilities and anything can happen.

The similarities between the DCEU and the MCU

Gunn also took the opportunity to say that, although there is this advantage of the DCEU being more comprehensive, the production of films is not that different. “With Guardians of the Galaxy, I got my first chance to do something this huge in film and I was able to learn what works and what doesn’t for fans. The truth is that the film process is not that different,” he said.

The screenwriter has already been fired and rehired by Marvel, but believes Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be his last project with Marvel Studios. In addition to the third volume in the saga, he is also involved with DC’s Peacemaker (Peacemaker) with HBO Max, a spin-off from Suicide Squad focusing on John Cena.
