The iPhone 12 is the world’s best-selling cell phone in 2021 to date, according to a survey by market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC). The data released on Monday (22) refer to the first three quarters of 2021.
Launched by Apple in 2020, the model starts at $ 1020 in Brazil, a value suggested by the manufacturer, and was already featured in the list of best sellers in the first quarter of this year. Besides him, three other versions of the Apple smartphone appear in the top 5, showing the brand’s popularity.
Introduced in 2019, the iPhone 11 comes in third, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max in fourth and the iPhone 12 Pro in fifth. As it hit stores a few weeks ago, the iPhone 13 has not yet been listed in the rankings, but experts at the consultancy believe that should change by the end of the year.
The only cell phone not produced by Apple to appear in the top five, the Samsung Galaxy A12 comes in second. The model, which arrived in Brazil in January, has a quad camera, 5,000 mAh battery and a much lower price compared to iPhones.
Xiaomi drops in the ranking of manufacturers
Regarding the list of the largest cell phone manufacturers in the world, Xiaomi returned to third place in the ranking, shortly after taking the vice-leadership, according to data released by Counterpoint Research, referring to the third quarter of 2021. The drop would be related to the shortage of semiconductors.
Hard hit by supply chain problems, the Chinese brand sold 43.9 million smartphones in the last quarter, down 6% from the same period last year. With that, it lost second place to Apple, while Samsung continues to lead.
