Google Duo: Using Effects and Filters in Video Calls

The Google Duo app is a very easy to use and very practical communication tool for keeping in touch with family and friends. Compatible with cell phones (including iPhones), tablets, desktops and smart displays, it has several features to make your video calls more interesting.

Among these functions, we highlight the filters and effects, which make it possible to make modifications during the chat, making it quite different. In the case of filters, they add color overlays to the recordings, including various shades.

Effects are a more animated tool. When you turn them on, you become an astronaut, a fish or a number of things. They can be used in both real-time conversations and recorded messages, unlike filters, which only work on messages.

Using filters and effects in video messages
To use these tools in a recorded message, open the Duo and give it permission to access the microphone, camera and contacts. Then, slide the screen down, start recording and view the filters and effects buttons in the right corner of the display.

Tap on each one to check the available options, make your choices and then just record the message with the chosen filters and effects. When finished, send the recording to your contacts.

How to use Duo Effects in video calls
In live calls, you can only use the effects, as we said earlier. To trigger them, start a video conference in the app and tap on the three dots icon in the bottom right corner.

Now, tap on “Effects” and browse through the options, choosing the ones you want to make chatting more fun.

It is worth remembering that in addition to conventional filters and effects, Google adds special versions at various times throughout the year, such as Christmas, Easter, changing seasons and others.
