Godzilla vs Kong, hit the stage with the biggest box office

Godzilla vs. Kong follows its glorious journey at the box office. After breaking the record for the biggest debut outside the United States in times of a pandemic, last week, it was time to break the record on American soil. The film premiered there last Wednesday and racked up $ 48.5 million in 5 days of screening. The number is quite expressive mainly because the film also debuted on HBO Max at no additional cost to subscribers, who now number more than 38 million in the country.

In the 3 days of the weekend, the film directed by Adam Wingard accumulated US $ 32 million in the United States alone, registering the best opening weekend since the beginning of the pandemic. The sign of high numbers started on Wednesday itself, when the clash of the monsters had the best opening day in a pandemic period, with US $ 9.6 million.

So far, worldwide, Godzilla vs. Kong has amassed $ 285.4 million. This shows that cinemas are starting to recover after more than 1 year of restrictions and closed doors. In the United States, just over half of the cinemas have already reopened, but they are operating with a reduced audience capacity to avoid crowds. Otherwise, the box office numbers could be even higher.

The result should excite the studios that have been postponing their main debuts for a year. Among the main titles that debuted during the pandemic are Wonder Woman 1984 (US $ 166.1 million at the global box office), Tenet (US $ 363.1 million), Raya and the Last Dragon (US $ 86.4 million), Tom & Jerry – The Movie ($ 93.5 million) and The Croods 2 – A New Age ($ 162.5 million).

In Brazil, Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on April 29, but the date may change due to the pandemic.
