After almost 20 years of absence from the air, Fraser is returning to our lives, but he will look a little different than last time. Instead of Fraser Crane being joined again by Niles, Daphne and Roz (Martin was never an option since John Mahoney passed away in 2018), Kelsey Grammer is starring with a whole host of new faces in the revival heading to Paramount+ subscribers. However, one of Fraser’s newest castings takes a page from the playbook of the Night Court, as one of the show’s main characters is a descendant of some people from the original Fraser.
Those who watch the new “Night Court” on NBC know that Melissa Rauch from “The Big Bang Theory” plays Judge Abby Stone, the daughter of Harry Stone played by Harry Anderson, the main character of the original “Night Court”, who, like the actor who played him, died. Well, while we don’t know how David Hyde Pierce’s Niles and Daphne Jane Reeves are doing these days, we’ll soon get to know their son/nephew Fraser pretty well, as the Night Court viewers do with Abby. Variety reported that Anders Keith got the role of David Crane in the movie “Fraser”, which was born in the finale of the original two-part series “Fraser”.
Now a college freshman, Anders Keith’s David Crane is described as “a bumbling college freshman with a penchant for non-standard observations” who has Niles’ intelligence and Daphne’s smile, “and none of their brilliance. While David’s “undeserved confidence” may confuse some, Fraser is a fan of his nephew’s “sincere enthusiasm.” Fraser will be the first screen project of Keith, who graduated from Juilliard in May 2022.
Last November, Kelsey Grammer shared that David Hyde Pierce would not reprise Niles in the Frasier revival because he was not interested in returning to the role. There was also no word that Jane Reeves would play Daphne again, and now that Anders Keith is playing David, if Fraser’s original fans are wondering what has happened to Niles and Daphne since we last saw them in 2004, that information needs to be revealed. through their son. However, depending on how long the revival lasts, and assuming that Niles and Daphne are still alive, maybe Pierce will change his mind and become a guest star in an episode with Reeves by his side.
Anders Keith isn’t the only new Frasier cast announced today. Jess Salguero, known for such TV series as Y: The Last Man, Letterkenny, The Boys and The Expanse, joined us in the role of Eva, the roommate of Fraser Crane’s son, Freddie, who is played by Jack Cutmore-Scott in this series. Eva is considered a “breath of fresh air” who is “spontaneous, sociable and full of creative energy, regardless of whether they asked for it or not.” Eva will play a key role in reuniting Fraser and Freddie, who were not on good terms when the series begins. Salguero, Keith, Cutmore and Kelsey Grammer will join Nicholas Lyndhurst Alan Cornwall, Fraser’s old college buddy and university professor who has a “naughty streak.”
After starting development in 2019, Paramount+ gave the green light to a Frasier revival in early 2021, and by October 2022, it had secured a 10-episode season with Chris Harris and Joe Kristalley as writers/executive producers. While we’re waiting for more updates on what to expect from the new Fraser, check out our TV schedule for 2023 to find out which shows are currently airing or coming soon.
