Respected German journalist Florian Plettenberg is convinced that Viktor Osimhen is Manchester United’s top priority this summer, as the Red Devils hope to replenish their ranks with a world-class striker.
Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo have never been replaced by United, and there are still doubts about whether Mason Greenwood will play for the club again after alleged criminal behavior off the field.
Anthony Martial, United’s main striker, is suffering from constant injury problems, and the loaned Wout Weghorst is unlikely to stay at the club after June.
As reported here yesterday, Osimhen has been constantly linked with United in recent months, as the Nigerian’s brilliant season helped Napoli take first place in Serie A and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
A double blow of 150 million euros is being discussed for him and central defender Kim Min Jae.
Regardless of whether this is true or not, Plettenberg claims that United’s interest in the 24-year-old is quite real.
Manchester United really want him,” he said via Sport Witness.
“We have heard that he also has a higher internal rating than Kolo Muani.”
This in itself contradicts reports earlier this week that United had already prepared an offer of 120 million euros for their French counterpart Osimhen.
It is also reported that United are chasing Harry Kane from Spurs, but a number of reports from leading journalists this week say that Osimhen is at the top of the wish list.
Neither will be easy to acquire, as they currently belong to clubs with well-known tough negotiators, Aurelio de Laurentiis from Napoli and Daniel Levy from Tottenham.
United have also been linked with Gonzalo Ramos of Benfica, Mohamed Kudus of Ajax and Benjamin Cesco of RB Leipzig.
