Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, known primarily for his work on Hannibal and Doctor Strange, is being tipped to replace Johnny Depp in the next film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
According to what the international press learned, Mads was starting negotiations to live the dangerous wizard Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. The series is derived from the Harry Potter saga, created by English writer J.K. Rowling.
After playing Grindelwald in the first two films in the new saga, Depp announced on Friday (6) that Warner Bros. Pictures, responsible for the production and distribution of the films, had asked him to “resign” his role somehow.
All of this would have happened after the actor missed a defamation trial in the UK, involving allegations of abuse by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The controversies surrounding Johnny Depp had already generated a lot of criticism in the past due to his casting in the films.
Currently, Fantastic Beasts 3 is being produced in the UK. Other information already verified ensures that Depp had filmed just one scene like Grindelwald before resigning his participation in the cast. Thus, with the arrival of Mads Mikkelsen, little would need to be redone.
The role of Grindelwald is very important for the development of the new saga related to the Harry Potter universe. Remember that author J.K.Rowling has already announced that this story will be told in about five films.
Grindelwald is a brilliant dark wizard, full of interesting nuances and who during his youth maintained a very complicated relationship with the famous Hogwarts director, Albus Dumbledore (played this time by Jude Law).
It remains for us to wait for the confirmation of Mads Mikkelsen on paper and the release of the new film.
