Facebook is preparing to bring COVID-19 reaction emojis to the platform to draw attention to the coronavirus outbreak that affects the world. The social media giant is testing the new response button.
Facebook will add another to the reaction emojis that allow users to interact with the posts. Reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong discovered that the social media giant is working on a new COVID-19 themed response button.
Response buttons are designed to express an emotion triggered by sharing beyond a simple taste. However, the new reaction emoji appears to be designed as an awareness of the coronavirus outbreak rather than representing an answer in the posts.
While it is not known exactly what the new COVID-19 emoji will represent, it may be a new way to support virus-fighting healthcare professionals around the world. On the other hand, the new response button can also be used to collect donations to charities via the platform.
Facebook previously brought a flower emoji by doing a similar application on mother’s day. Given that the epidemic is threatening human life worldwide, COVID-19 emoji can be used to raise awareness about the disease, to thank healthcare professionals, or to draw attention to aid campaigns. Facebook has confirmed that the COVID-19 button is in the test, but no further explanation.
