Facebook is getting ready to say “stop” to ads related to the new type of corona virus, which affects the whole world. The US social media giant will ban ads that give false information about the outbreak and suggest unscientific healthcare solutions.
Facebook, which has more than 2 billion users worldwide, announced on January 31 that all publications containing conspiracy theories and misinformation about the new type of corona virus COVID-19 will be removed from the platform. The US social media giant, which especially fought sharing about wrong treatment methods, made such a decision so that the fear and anxiety around the epidemic did not increase further.
When Facebook made this decision, the number of people who died due to the virus was 170, and the number of people affected by the epidemic was 7,000. Today, the company has taken another step on COVID-19, and announced that ads that provide false information about the outbreak and suggest non-scientific health treatments will also be banned.
There is about a month between two descriptions of Facebook. And during this time, the number of people who died due to the corona virus increased to 2,715 and the number of people affected by the epidemic rose to 78,064.
Struggling with broadcasts that contain false information about COVID-19, Facebook also applies the same policy on its photo and video sharing platform, Instagram. The social media giant uses information controllers to check the accuracy of suspicious claims about the outbreak. Stating that the shares in question have damaged global health institutions and local health authorities, Facebook says that misleading content and advertisements negatively affect the fight against the epidemic.
