The CEOs of Facebook, Google and Twitter will soon appear before the US Congress again. Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai and Jack Dorsey agreed to testify at the Energy and Trade Committee’s session on 25 March.
The main agenda item of the session will be “lies and false information surrounding social platforms”. Here, the attitude of these platforms against misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine or the presidential election held in the USA in 2020 will also be examined.
The committee’s statement includes the following statements: “These platforms have not done their part in preventing the spread of false information about the COVID-19 vaccine or allegations of fraud in elections. This has exacerbated real-life national crises and has had negative consequences for public health and safety.
The committee’s statement, which will listen to Facebook, Google and Twitter CEOs, continues as follows: “This session is a continuation of the Committee’s efforts to hold online platforms responsible for lies and false information. Big tech companies have long denied their role in spreading false information to the masses. The industry has not been able to regulate itself. We must encourage the environment that will allow social media companies to change their attitude so far. “
