EUROVISION LOOKS FOR VOLUNTEERS AND ITS OFFER TO THE WORLD

The Eurovision Festival has become in recent years a musical show that millions of people do not want to miss around the world. Good proof of this was the recent controversy over the sale of tickets both in the Lisbon edition in 2018 and in Tel Aviv in 2019 over excessive prices and the crazy resale.

And in 2020 it was the turn of the Netherlands to organize the new edition of the song contest through the broadcasting company NPO (Nederlandse Publieke Omroep). The state company has not started very well if we look at the labor supply to start covering the workforce.

The proposal that is outraging the whole world includes working at any time between May 1 and 18, 2020 as ‘hosts’ of the different delegations as volunteers, that is, without charge. Among the requirements they ask for is the command of English and Dutch as well as another language of the participating countries, to know the city of Rotterdam and its surroundings (gastronomy, culture, nightlife, public transport …), to be over 20 years old old and able to cover both the trip to Rotterdam and accommodation costs.

That is, NPO is looking for people who are available 24 hours a day and who can pay or live in the city for more than three weeks without charge. In return, the company ensures that it offers a unique work experience for the curriculum, the opportunity to live the festival in an unrepeatable way and meet new people and make contacts.

Critics are getting worse against the organization of the festival that has had to specify that it will offer “free food and drink” to the volunteers, since the original offer also did not refer to these expenses.

Expert calculations ensure that Eurovision has a budget of around 27 million euros, of which a third is provided by the European Broadcasting Union through its contributions, sponsorships and ticket sales. The problem seems to be that the government of the Netherlands has refused to finance the rest of the money.

Blas Cantó will be in charge of representing Spain at the 2020 Eurovision Festival, which will be held in Rotterdam (Netherlands) in May. The Murcia soloist will take the witness of Miki Núñez, who defended his theme The band before the European public on the Israeli stage.

It is still unknown what song he will perform on stage. However it has been confirmed that it will be completely in Spanish and that it will be heard very soon.

This new edition will be the 65th in the history of the festival, which will be held on May 12, 14 and 16 at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, which will host this event for the first time. The job offer, for now, remains open and enabled until December 15.
