Eternals: hits theaters this weekend (5) and, in addition to having an Oscar-winning director, also has, for the first time on MCU, a sex scene. Chloe Zhao was asked about the sequel, which takes place between Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Ikaris (Richard Madden), and commented that, since the first draft, there was already the intention to put it in the film.
“This was being considered from the beginning,” said Zhao. “I knew that telling a mature love story, a love story that spans thousands of years, and not doing any kind of intimate scene felt unnatural to me. And everyone was thinking that too. After shooting and editing together, we showed it to a few people to see their reactions. And everyone, including Disney, said, ‘This is a beautiful show of love’ [about] the way our actors played together and how it fits in with the mood and where it is in the movie. So everyone said, ‘Come on!’ And I was like, Is everything okay? Can we do that?” But everyone supported the scene.”
The cast of Eternals also includes Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harrington, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry and Barry Keoghan. In addition to directing the film, Zhao also signs the script, alongside Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo.
