It’s almost hard to believe, but it’s been almost a year since the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony was broadcast on television and broke the internet. The discussion around how Will Smith slapped Chris Rock has not slowed down much during this time, and no doubt she will be mentioned during this year’s ceremony. It happened last night during the Golden Globes, when Eddie Murphy explained why he mentioned the Smiths during his acceptance speech.

Last night, the Golden Globes returned to television, and several moments of the night went viral. This includes Eddie Murphy receiving the Cecil B. Demille Award and joking about slapping an Oscar in the process. We remind you that you can check it out below on Instagram THR.

While generations of Eddie Murphy fans celebrated the way he was honored at the Golden Globes, the most viral moment from his speech was obviously when he mentioned Will Smith’s name and quoted his infamous Oscar moment with Chris Rock. This included one or two F bombs that had to be beeped during a live Globes broadcast. Talk about making a splash.

After receiving the prestigious Cecil B. Demille Award, Eddie Murphy gave several interviews to the press. During a conversation with ET, he was asked why he decided to make fun of the situation with Will Smith. The Dreamgirls actor answered honestly, saying:

Yes, because I actually worked with Jada. I love Will. I love Will, and I love Chris—and it’s all love.

Well, that’s it. It seems Eddie Murphy felt he could make fun of the viral situation thanks to his personal relationship with the three main parties involved: Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock. We’ll just have to wait and see if any of them respond to this latest viral moment related to The Slap.

As mentioned earlier, Will Smith, who came on stage and hit Chris Rock at the Oscar ceremony, blew up the Internet, especially since he returned to the stage to accept the award for best actor for his role in King Richard. As a result of this incident, there was a lot of negative reaction: Smith dropped out of the film academy and was banned from the ceremony for ten years. And his professional comeback has only recently begun to gain momentum.

After the incident at the Oscar ceremony, Will Smith disappeared from sight for several months. He eventually returned to social media, and also went public and even promoted his starring role in Antoine Fuqua’s drama Emancipation. And during this press tour, he answered a number of questions about this incident.

That’s not all…
