EA’s two classic games are open source

EA announced that it will release open source code for its two classic games. Thanks to this open source code, gamers will be able to add new modes to games. As you know, some games have evolved significantly after being open source. In this way, games improve significantly. In this context, source code will be released for EA Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command and Conquer: Red Alert games.

Those who follow strategy games tightly know, EA’s classic and also real-time strategy games, Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command and Conquer: Red Alert, will be released on 5 June 2020, according to new news.

As of this date, it is planned to release Command and Conquer Remastered Collection, which includes reorganized versions of both games and DLC.

In the games offered as open source, players can theoretically create more fun or widespread modes. Jim Vessella, who is on the creative side of EA, stated in his blog post that games with open source codes can be used with a new map editor whose players are part of the collection.

According to Vessella, players will be able to use mods and custom maps, even if they play on Steam or via EA’s Origin game launcher. Vessella said that the source code of both games will be available under the GNU (General Public License).
