The US government will withdraw its citizens from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that is quarantined off the coast of Japan, due to an outbreak of Coronavirus . The more than 350 passengers will be transferred to US soil.
Tomorrow, more than 350 American passengers aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship will be able to leave the quarantine and return to their country on two charter flights. Americans can leave the ship only if they failed to test positive for the Coronavirus virus .
“The priority of the US Government is the safety and well-being of its citizens,” said the American embassy in a letter published on its website, which also expresses “the deep gratitude to the government of Japan for working diligently to control and contain the propagation ”of Covid-19 .
In this way, in Washington they already asked for the landing and repatriation of their citizens “to fulfill their responsibilities under its rules and practices” and to “reduce the burden on the Japanese health system.”
After leaving the cruise, the Americans will have to be examined by the Coronavirus tests and transported in mircos to the planes that will take them to US military bases. There, they will remain in an additional quarantine of 14 days.
The transfer of citizens was confirmed after criticism of the case of the Covid-19 outbreak in the Diamond Princess, by the Japanese authorities.
The Diamond Princess was declared in quarantine on February 3 with about 3,700 people on board, including passengers and crew, after learning that a Hong Kong citizen who had traveled aboard was infected with Covid-19 .
