By including texture packs, zombie mode and other add-ons such as ray tracing the total sum will be more than half the storage of Series S.
The Xbox Series X | S console edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have a total weight of – at least – 187.9 GB at launch. A player who has had access to the game’s preload has shared an image on Reddit that shows the breakdown of all the content that is part of the installation; which goes far beyond installing the base game.
The ambitious Treyarch title, which promises to be one of the technical benchmarks in the FPS genre of this first batch of next-generation titles, will include multiplayer mode (27.6 GB), Zombies mode (7.5 GB), Dead Ops Arcade (11.8 GB), HD textures (38.2 GB) and Ray Tracing data (11.8 GB), among other minor additional content batches. As we can see, when clicking on adding the twelve items they give a total of 187.9 GB free of patches, so Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may eventually weigh even more, as we have seen during this year with Call of Duty : Modern Warfare and Warzone.
The weight of games, inconvenient for consoles with little storage
This situation poses a particularly complex scenario for Xbox Series S players, who have a useful storage space of 364 GB (of the 512 GB of the SSD unit that mounts the console); while in Xbox Series X 802 GB are available to the player compared to the 1 TB incorporated. More than 50% of the weight of the first one would be completely used by a single title.
Another outstanding case that has made the news recently is that of NBA 2K21, another simulator with high technical ambitions that, as is already official, will weigh 121.7 GB on Xbox Series X and 101 GB on Xbox Series S.
